SGT. STUBBY Named Official Film Project of the WWICC

11/11/2015

Filmmakers at Labyrinth Media have teamed up with the U.S. World War I Centennial Commission (WWICC) to tell the story of Stubby, the famous stray dog who fought in the First World War.

The animated film is currently in production and is set for nationwide theatrical release in 2018 to commemorate the centennial of American involvement in World War I.

“The Commission believes that Stubby – An American Hero will further our goals of educating the American people about the causes, courses and consequences of the war and honoring the service and sacrifice of American servicemen and women,” said Daniel S. Dayton, Executive Director of the WWICC.

12208830_1647777505471829_1023048330366019137_nStubby joined the U.S. Army’s 26th Yankee Division on the training fields of Yale University and became the regimental mascot. He fought on the Western Front in France where he warned of impending gas attacks, located wounded soldiers and caught a German spy; for this act he was granted the honorary rank of Sergeant.

“Countless lives were saved because of Stubby’s heroic actions,” said Richard Lanni, Executive Producer of Sgt. Stubby. “By telling the story through his eyes, this film will entertain and inspire audiences of all ages.”

Labyrinth Media and the WWICC believe their partnership project will stretch far beyond history enthusiasts to engage and entertain entire families.

“No one has ever made an animated film about war,” Lanni said. “What Stubby will accomplish is groundbreaking, because it will capture the realities of war yet also display the very best of the human spirit. This dog is a true role model.”

THE FILM

Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero is the incredible true story of a stray bull terrier mutt and the lasting bond he forged with the doughboys of the 26th “Yankee” Division at the onset of America’s entry into World War I. The film has been selected as an official project of the United States World War I Centennial Commission and is the first animated feature for Fun Academy Motion Pictures and Labyrinth Media & Publishing, producers of motion pictures that entertain, innovate, and inspire audiences of all ages.
